Requests

Since my recipes tend to be the result of needing to use up some ingredient or random selection, I thought I would open a page for requests and suggestions. Feel free to request any historical recipe in the comments below. You may submit a variety of suggestions, for example "Wassail" or "19th century chocolate cake" or simply "a recipe using pears." I prefer that recipes remain in the 1970s and earlier, but I am open to suggestions. And of course, I will do my best to honour requests, but there may be a case when that is sadly not possible.

  1. I had an Encyclopedia of Cooking, I think it was titled, from the 1970s. A home disaster meant I no longer have it. In it there was a recipe for carrot cookies, using grated raw carrots, topped with a dusting of powdered sugar. I would love to have that recipe again, if you can find it.
    Thank you.

  4. Anonymous: Was the recipe something like this? http://timetravelkitchen.blogspot.ca/2011/10/carrot-cookies.html

Christina: No Twitter or Facebook, but I am on Pinterest! Maybe I'll branch out a bit, though ;)

  5. Hi Anje - I'm enjoying reading your articles and love that you actually cook the recipes. I do this as well on my blog at auntlilskitchen.com. I hope you'll check it out and possibly include a link to my site. I'm going to add you to mine. I too am a history/museum person having worked in the field for 30 years. Thanks for your great posts and keep cooking! Lisa

  6. Just found you site & love it. I collect old cook books with a few from the 1930's moving forward to 50's,60's & 70's. I collect community & church cookbooks. I'd love to have a blog like yours but due to illness
am no longer able to make them all. My kids used to pick ones & then we'd try them. I'm about to checkout your pinterest page. I wonder if you'd consider a monthly ( or more often) newsletter with some of your recipes. I'll enjoy checking out your recipes. I tend to be one of those people who read cookbooks esp. old ones like novels. I'm also checking out the site whith the Canadian books. How great to save those.
